Fat Mama’s Tamales Featured on the Mississippi List

August finds Fat Mama’s Tamales featured on MississippiList.com as the “Top Spot for Tamales and Margaritas in Mississippi“!

Fat Mama’s Tamales has long been a staple in the city of Natchez. Locals and visitors alike enjoy the casual, eclectic atmosphere and unique sampling of menu items.”

The article starts with what inspired Fat Mama’s back in the 1980s and goes on to share some highlights from our menu, including our world famous Fat Mama’s Tamales.

“Today, Fat Mama’s menu has evolved to one of tamales, boudin, chili, Mexican cornbread, poboys, nachos, and more. Their signature Gringo Pie combines tamales with chili, cheese, onions and jalapenos on top. Their Gringo Casserole is pretty much the same thing, only prepped for a large crowd.

Best Tamales: Fat Mama's Tamales

“But oh, those tamales. Fat Mama’s Tamales are a Mississippi Delta style hot tamale. Each tamale is wrapped in an authentic corn husk, cooked to perfection! Fat Mama’s Tamales are made with a combination of beef and pork, full full of flavor – and boiled not steamed.”

Thanks so much to MississippiList.com for stopping by and enjoying Fat Mama’s Tamales with us!

Fat Mama’s Tamales will be celebrating 25 years in business on June 14, 2014!  We are packing the day full things and hope you will stop by, say hello, relax, and celebrate with us!

We will have live music from 11:00 am – 3:00 pm and from 4:00 pm until 8:00 pm.  We will have our beer garden up and running outside with shaded seating, tons of cool FMT gear to give away, Five almost life sized donkey sculptures painted by local artist on display, The Krewe of Fat Mama’s will be on hand, We will live stream tweets that use #FMT25, and more.

I wish I could tell everyone about the cool FMT gear to give away, but you will have to wait until June 14, 2014, but we tried to make sure we got some unique stuff to give away to everyone!

The artists who are painting the donkeys are Aimee Guido, Tim Givens, The League of Extraordinary Artists, Maggie Dean & Sim Hicks!  They each have spent countless hours working on these paintings, as they are roughly 55 inches long, 40 inches tall and 14 inches thick, and have various surfaces and angles that have required a lot of planning on top of the amount of time to paint each one!  We have pretty much asked each artist to plan, design, paint, and delivery these sculptures to Fat Mama’s with almost anything they wanted to portray, we did offer some suggestions, however we have not seen any of the donkeys while they have been and are getting painted, and we made sure to let each artist know that they are free to design and paint these sculptures as they see fit.

It is our hope to display this painted donkeys around town at select locations to be determined, once we have revealed them on June 14, 2014!

The music line up is:

Ben Lewis 11:00 – 12:00

Charlie Hugg 12:00 – 1:00

Travis McCready 1:00 – 2:00

Speakeasy – 2:00 – 3:00

From 3:00 pm – 4:00 we will have a meet and greet with the donkey sculpture artist

New Beer Law in MS!

Friends & Neighbors

The MS legislature earlier this year voted to allow higher content beer in the State of Mississippi.  The law started on July 1, 2012, and we just got our first shipment of high content craft beer in! They are big, flavorful and definitely not your average beer.  We will be rotating different high content craft beers in and out over the next few weeks and seeing what people like the best.  We currently have the following:

Rogue Chocolate Stout, 22 Ounce Bottle
Rogue Chipolte Ale, 22 Ounce Bottle
Mons Abby Dubbel, 25 Ounce Bottle

Rogue Chocolate Stout is a heavy beer, with a strong flavor and aroma and hint of chocolate.
Rogue Chipolte Ale is an ale, with a light smoky flavor and clean finish
Mons Abby Dubbel is Belgium inspired beer that is fruity and slightly sweet

Just ask our staff about them, and they can point you in the right direction!
